It was nice to have (some of) my children with me for Father's Day yesterday. We went rock hunting and found a softball size chunk of Quartz. We're still looking for the Magnetite and Hematite that is supposedly around here. We drove around quote a bit and did some shopping. Then we stopped at Social Sunday in Keene at Vendetta's. I had no idea the crew from Motorhomediaries.com were going to be there. I should have known though, since Porcupine Freedom Festival starts this week. It was good to see so many liberty activists in one place. Camping for us starts Wednesday evening through Sunday. And then again the following week.

Harvard Yard, Harvard Square, Harvard Museum of Natural Science, Cambridge, Boston, Plum Island, Newburyport, and more. The kids are out here for the summer and I've taken them down to Kate's place a couple times now. They have really enjoyed having other kids to play with. Yesterday they went to the beach for a homeschooling activity and met even more kids.
Next week is PorcFest and then Burning Porc is the following week. It's gearing up to be a fun summer!

Activists & musicians & cameras! oh my!
What a great day for liberty and outreach. I had a blast getting up there and playing, not just once, but two times during the Festival at Railroad Square and then the BBQ at Robin Hood Park.
Here is some video from the event :)

This last weekend I organized the litter pickup for the Free State Project highway adoption along 101 in Peterborough NH. 8 people showed up to help. It was 2 miles of 50 MPH meandering asphalt. We made it a lot of fun and it was an absolutely perfect day outside. 72 degrees, blue skies, nice breeze, and great company.
The rest of my weekend was even better ;) I'm counting the days, hours, minutes, miles, and messages...

Friday and Saturday nights in Jaffrey NH there is live music at Mindfull Books and Ephemera. It's a comfortable Bohemian atmosphere were the community can gather to listen to local musicians, poets, and story tellers. Satruday nights are potluck and there is always great food to be enjoyed.

For those of you still tangled in the web of myths supporting society and state, I present another "gun in the room" angle when faced with defending yourself, your property, or your interest:
The unfortunate truth is that the threat of violence from the state is perpetually there. The police are weapons of the state and will murder you if you try to defend yourself or your property against those weapons. There is no argument there.
The argument I always hear from proponents of the system is: Don't like it? Change it through the proper channels, vote, etc.
What happens when the system for affecting change is corrupt and protected by the weapons of the state? What happens when the state has effectively shut down all but "feel good" measures to appease the general public? What happens when the majority of the public think all of this is status quo and perfectly normal? What will happen when the apparatus of force (government) decides to take away ANY effective way of defending yourself against it? So many questions...
I know the answer. Just cowboy up and pull up your shit-kickers and labor like there's nothing wrong. Someone else will take care of it because they know what's better for the whole of the community. Volunteer for one of those feel-good, community-building events that gets posted in the local paper and makes everyone go "awww, how nice". Everything else is just fine. Ignore the gun in the room. Smile. Wave at your neighbors, unless they're doing something with their property you don't like. If that is the case, frown and disapprove, and then call Zoning or one of the other countless departments available on them. It's a free country! Damn I'm proud to be an American. Ahhh, freedom. Makes me want to spread it to other countries (by force if necessary). I don't think I can be more sarcastic...
Honestly, the LEAST of your worries in this day and age is what your neighbor is doing with their home or property.
Home school your kids. The public school system is a complete and utter disaster and not worth saving.
Turn off your TV. American Idol (or Lost or any other tripe) doesn't matter. At all.
Tell your "representatives" they don't represent you. Because they really don't. Stop empowering them. Power corrupts.
I will admit. We have it really good here in NH compared to other locations. Gee... how long till we're like the other states? Not long if we ignore the real issues.

I've heard this quote often...
"The best programmers are smart, arrogant, and unspeakably lazy."
I've also heard this one:
"If you want to know the easiest way to do something, assign it to the laziest man in the Army."
So the naturally brilliant mind gravitates toward simplifying things. I can relate with that.
Why repeat functions over time when you can create a script that will automate that for you?
It may take some time initially, but then you can kick back, have a drink and watch the work being done without any additional effort from you. It's called enjoying the fruits of your labor. :)
From the book "Presidential Temperaments", by David Keirsey and Ray Choiniere: "In spite of his glowing intelligence and constant activity Jefferson had a reputation among some for being hopelessly lazy. John Adams complained vigorously about this from time to time."
Thomas Jefferson had a wide and diverse set of interests: reading, scholarly pursuits, politics, music, etc. I can see some of his contemporaries looking down their noses at him thinking that perhaps he should have spent his time splitting logs or similarly be engaged in manual labor.
It's laziness that takes people direct to the heart of any problem. Instead of taking the long, work-intensive way around, they take the brilliant shortcut :)
I have seen how this affects certain people. It makes them uncomfortable or angry. They see a person working on something that doesn't seem to address the issue at hand. It grates on their nerves. Especially when they find out the work was already done in less than half the time it took them to do it...because then they start to formulate in their heads that instead of relaxing and enjoying yourself, you should be moving on to the next thing and stay just as tied down to your work as they are.
Of course, the brilliant mind already have an answer for those people ;)

...take a moment to reflect on this:
“Paradigms become so integral for some individuals that when the data that they receive from their senses doesn’t correspond with their paradigm, they reject the data instead of questioning their world view,” Jacobs said, explaining why many people have trouble accepting the ideas of liberty. “In other words, they dismiss the way that things really are in favor of the way they think things are.”
Yes...this guy said that:

Now go hear the rest of Glen Jacobs' AMAZING speech!
